Week 2

On Monday in our lesson with James we were experimenting using the 360 cameras. We went out to film footage to edit with. We decided to hire santander bikes as they are free for 30 minutes, tape the cameras to the front of the bikes and cycle around the nearby streets. We tried to travel in a variety of locations so that we had multiple shots to work with. We all tried a different setting, I took a time-lapse video, Tom took multiple videos and Vadim took photos. We will be editing them next week.

After this we had our lesson with Becca where we stared to look at the Royal Opera House design challenge. The ballet this year is Romeo and Juliet. We started to read through the directors visions and visualise what each of them wanted to see from our designs. Some wanted to keep to the traditional aspects of the story and really embrace the history whereas others wanted a new twist and for the show to be modernised. We watched some trailers of different versions of the ballet to see the difference in set, costume, hair and make up designs.

Later on we had our lesson about UCAS with Shelley. We had to set up our UCAS accounts and register with them. As this took quite a while we did not get to look at future options and we will do this next week.

On Tuesday in our lesson with Mandy we looked at the context and history of Romeo and Juliet and A Christmas Carol. We researched about the author of A Christmas Carol, Charles Dickens. A lot of his work is very raw and true to the time of him writing. Some books are based on his own personal life experiences (E.G David Copperfield). We then looked more at the different ballet versions of Romeo and Juliet and talked about the importance of certain aspects of a dancers hair styles and costumes, as these have to be taken in to consideration when designing.

In the afternoon I began work on my sketchbook for the ROH design challenge. I found youtube videos the ROH had made a few years ago when the ballet was on last. This had interviews with the dancers, directors and designers. It gave me an idea of their views on the ballet and also what they want the audience to think and feel when they watch the ballet.

On Wednesday we had our first lesson with Grant and the music production students. We ran through how to set up a simple PA system. The flow is:
MIC
(XLR cable)
Pre-amp
(JK cable)
Speaker Control
(JK cable)
Power Amp
(XLR cable)
Loudspeaker

In the afternoon we continued research on the Royal Opera House design challenge.
