On Monday we came in to the theatre and started working on re-patching and re-rigging the theatre. We started off by bringing down 3 bars and moving some of the lights on them as they had been moved during the music gigs and we had to move them so they were correct for college productions. We had to then re patch the lights to the correct inputs and make sure they matches their numbers, colours and places on the magic sheet. After this we had a lesson with James where we were discussing the use of 3D and VR and the future of it within the theatre and film industry. We also talked about creating our own VR design of a to-scale Royal Opera House and then being able to use that in the design challenge or to create future to-scale sets for the company.
In the afternoon we went to Plasa exhibition at Olympia London. When we got there the show was very busy. We soon realised that there were barely any college students in attendance (maybe because this is such a specialist subject the course isn't taught in many colleges) and a lot of the exhibits were for professionals and not relevant to us yet, although they were very interesting. There were companies such as white light, Disney cruises, staging teams and many more all with new and exciting products. Lots of companies had demonstrations and free food and we had some very nice cupcakes.
On Tuesday I had the day off as I had to travel home to Cheltenham to take my driving test. Which I passed first time with 6 minors.
On Wednesday we continued re-patching the theatre but we hit a problem when the dimmer rack kept tripping and we had to figure out why. It turns out we were using a faulty extension cable and this was making certain things trip. Once we sorted this out by using a different cable the problem was solved. We then had a lesson with Farz, where we recapped what we had done last year. In the afternoon we helped the BTEC Technical Theatre students by showing them how to rig. We also carried on with our re-rigging/patching work. We realised that the blocks of colour we have a long the back, 4 of them didn't match their colours on the magic sheet but we soon resolved this by changing their colour on the magic sheet so it was correct.
